What it is

Dental Implants

An implant replaces what a bridge only spans: the root. A titanium post is placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with living bone over the following months, and a ceramic crown is built on top of it.

That fusion is what makes an implant different from every other option. The bone around a missing tooth shrinks; the bone around an implant does not, because it is being loaded again. Ten years on, the implant site looks like a tooth site, and the teeth on either side were never touched.

Aurelia places around 300 implants a year and has not placed a freehand implant since 2016.

  1. 01

    Diagnosis & CBCT scan

    60 min

    A low-dose 3D scan shows bone volume, density and the exact position of the nerve canal and sinus. We also take an intraoral scan of the bite.

  2. 02

    Digital planning

    Behind the scenes

    The implant is positioned virtually, driven by where the final crown needs to be — not by where the bone is easiest. A surgical guide is printed from that plan.

  3. 03

    Guided placement

    90 min

    Under local anaesthetic, with sedation if you want it. The guide seats over your teeth and the implant goes exactly where it was planned. Most patients drive themselves home.

  4. 04

    Healing & integration

    10 — 16 weeks

    Bone grows onto the implant surface. You wear a temporary restoration meanwhile, so no one will know anything is happening.

  5. 05

    Abutment & crown

    2 visits

    A scan of the integrated implant drives the design of the abutment and crown. Milled in zirconia, characterised by hand, tried in, then fitted.

  6. 06

    Review at 6 and 12 months

    30 min

    We check the bone level radiographically at six months and twelve, then fold the implant into your normal hygiene recall.

The neighbouring teeth stay untouched

A bridge requires cutting down two healthy teeth to carry it. An implant stands on its own and asks nothing of the teeth beside it.

Bone is preserved, not lost

Jawbone resorbs when a tooth is missing. An implant loads the bone the way a root did, and the ridge holds its shape.

It bites like the tooth it replaced

Fused to bone rather than resting on gum, an implant restores close to full chewing force. Most patients forget which side it is on.

Built to outlast the decade

With good hygiene and routine maintenance, a well-placed implant is a twenty-year restoration, not a five-year one.

The implant position is decided on screen and transferred to the mouth by a printed guide, eliminating freehand angulation error.

Straumann BLX implants

Roxolid alloy with SLActive surface — the system with the longest published survival data in immediate placement.

In-house zirconia milling

Crowns milled and characterised in the clinic, so shade matching happens with you in the room rather than by courier.

Afterwards

What the next fortnight looks like.

  1. First 24 hours

    Mild pressure rather than pain for most patients. Ice, soft food, and the painkillers we send you home with. No rinsing.

  2. Days 2 — 5

    Any swelling peaks around day two and settles from there. Most people return to work the next morning.

  3. Week 2

    Sutures removed or dissolved. The site looks and feels unremarkable. Normal brushing resumes.

  4. Months 3 — 4

    Integration complete. We test stability with a resonance frequency reading before we load the implant.

The surgery itself does not — the area is fully anaesthetised and most patients describe pressure rather than pain. Afterwards, the majority manage on ibuprofen for two days. We offer IV sedation for anyone who would rather not be present for it.
It is common, and it is usually solvable. Depending on what the CBCT shows, we may graft at the time of placement, perform a sinus lift, or use a shorter angled implant. Dr. Haddad plans around resorption routinely; it rarely rules an implant out.
Typically four months from surgery to final crown, because that is how long bone takes to integrate. In selected cases with good bone we can place and load a temporary crown the same day.
The crown is shade-matched to the teeth beside it and the emergence profile is shaped so the gum sits around it as it would around a natural root. In practice, no.
Our five-year survival rate is 98.4%. Published data on the system we use shows above 95% at ten years. The implant itself does not decay; what matters is keeping the gum around it healthy, which is what the recall visits are for.
